Netizens have expressed their varied opinions after Kenya National Qualifications Authority(KNQA) accredited Kenya Medical Training College diplomas to be equated to Bachelor’s degrees.
“Following the accreditation, the College’s Higher National Diploma Qualifications now fall in the KNQA level 7, which makes them equivalent to the Bachelor’s degree, Certified Public Accountant(CPA) III, Certified Public Secretary (CPS) or Master Craft Person I.Presenting the Certificate, KNQA Ag. Council Chair CPA Rosemary Njogu lauded the College for the integral role it continues to play in Kenya’s health sector,” stated KMTC.
Here are some of the reactions from netizens on the move.
It is not a bad thing to accredit and acknowledge KMTC’s Higher National Diploma as a degree equivalent, but they should put things clear considering some people took 4-10yrs to acquire the same degree from universities. Or the learning time doesn’t matter?
I’m in agreement about the accreditation and acknowledgment of KMTC’s Higher National Diploma as a degree equivalent. The next one should be Kenya Institute of Mass Communication (KIMC). The quality of graduates from both schools is incredibly great!
We admit that KMTC offers quality courses due to competent practicals and exposure than similar courses in the university. However, their Dip shouldn’t be equated to a degree. Instead, now equip our universities to produce quality graduates in medical courses.
Its shouldnt be rocket science that a higher diploma can not be an equivalent of a degree. We all appreciate the skills and competence that KMTC graduates possess but a HND being equated to a degree is a weird conversation..

My worry is,will professional bodies recognize HND? PPB will never recognize it. The best option would have been to negotiate with universities to reduce the number of years and the cost required for one to pursue a Degree coz as it stands war has been declared ,KMTC vs Universities & professional bodies.
It’s really amazing how people are offended with this HND from kmtc accreditation. Remember to attain a HND you must have had completed a 3 or 3 and half years course and an extra year in internship + more than a year’s working experience totalling to 5 or 6 years.
