Shocking news from Budalangi in Busia county reveals that three University of Nairobi students met their ultimate death after a boat capsized on new year’s eve on December 31st 2022. A search for the bodies of three students who drowned at the Mulokoba Waterfront is ongoing.
The casualties were identified as: Dedan Omondi Damai, aged 22 years and his brother Wycliffe Onyango Damai aged 21. They had gone fishing at the beach before they met their untimely death.
Police have revealed that the deceased were students at the university of Nairobi in their sixth, third and first years in the Nairobi-based higher learning institution. Bunyala Sub-county police commander Isaiah Mose said the deceased was part of a group of seven students on a fun boat ride. The rest were rescued after the evening incident.
The exercise was suspended due to darkness as the search for the three bodies continued. The cause of this tragic incident is the strong waves in the lake.
Another similar incident was reported in Mombasa Pirates beach during Christmas as two people drowned after their boat capsized.
A video of the gentlemen was shared on Twitter moments before their boat capsized.
