Freshly Mwamburi is a Kenyan musician specializing in the Rhumba genre and is popularly known for his hit song Stella Wangu produced back in 1992. The song has remained evergreen ever since then. The song has always elicited mixed reactions among Kenyans, with some attaching them to the sad reality passed by the song.

Age

Mwamburi Mwakachola alias Freshley Mwamburi was born on 7th November 1958, on the slopes of Kilimanjaro in Wundanyi, Taita and belongs to the Taita tribe located near the coast of Kenya.

Education

The singer attended Changmwe Boys School and Alidina Visram. He ignited his passion for music by singing in the school choir.

Marriage

The singer is married to Dorcas Nduku, whom they have been married happily and blessed with five children. The singer narrates that he was able to move on from the black tides of Stella and finally settle with his wife, who could understand him and give full support.

Music career

Freshly career in music started at the age of 15 years while working with Mombasa International Band. Later in 1983, he was signed by Simba Wanyika music band. In 1987 was signed by Les Wanyika Band. The music breakthrough came in 1982 when he released Stella Wangu’s cover.

Stella Wangu

The hit song Stella Wangu placed Freshly on the map of music, the music has lived 31 years later and netizens recall the movements from the song every 17th of May each year and it has contributed to social discussions affecting relations like hypergamy and unfaithful partners who betray their lovers who have worked harder for the success of the relationships.

“Nilikua na mchumba wangu, tulipendana kama nyama choma…Ilikuwa tarehe 17 mwezi wa tano. Stella alishuka amebeba mtoto mkononi; nyuma yake mchumba wake mfupi, futi nne Mjapani...” The lyrics have been nostalgic to the lovers of rhumba.

New Vibe

Freshly has been redefining his music lately. To catch the new generation, the singer reworked Stella Wangu‘s song with a reggae version which is also doing great.

The singer has also released one of the new hits, Wakesho, which praises the beauty of women from the Taita community,  a song that the young population felt and doing great on TikTok.
