10 comedians who joined Radio

Radio journalism has embraced a new trend of hiring comedians and influencers to their programs to generate high traffic among listeners. Here are 10 comedians who have benefitted from this trend and joined various radio stations in Kenya.

1. Churchill

Daniel Ndambuki, alias King’ang’ang’i is a presenter at Classic FM, where he works alongside Maina Kageni during the morning breakfast show. The duo has worked for over 15 years. Ndambuki is the host of Kenya’s popular comedy show Churchill Show.

2. MCA Tricky.

Francis Munyao, alias MCA Tricky is one of the most popular comedians in Kenya and came to the limelight after his hilarious jokes and his presentation as a street kid. The comedian holds a degree in Mechatronic engineering from Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology. He works at Milele Fm as a presenter alongside Chris the Bass.

3. Vinnie Baite

On May 2022, Vinnie Baite announced to his fans that he had landed a new job as a presenter at RadioMax’s Milele FM. He hosts alongside Francis Luchivya. Vinnie Baite became popular due to his vines and skits that portray the life of a typical Meru guy. He later graced the Churchill show as a stand-up comedian.

4. SugarBoy

He is popularly known for his programme ”wrong number” on Radio Maisha. SugarBoy came to fame after gracing the Churchill show and was able to move the audience with his unique twist of comedy embodied in the coastal Swahili accent. The ever-jovial comedian works with Radio Maisha.

5. Mulamwah

David Oyando, popularly known as Mulamwah, works with Milele FM as a presenter. The comedian is a nurse by profession. He landed the job last year in May 2022 after a series of disagreements with his ex-girlfriend Carol Sonnie that revealed dark secrets about their relationship. He became popular due to his skits that portrayed the life of a village-based Luhya man.

Other comedians who have worked on radio include Obinna, Eric Omondi, Hamo, Jalang’o, Zeddy and Captain Otoyo.
