Pastor Odero has been in the limelight recently after being arrested and taken through court seasons for questioning the Shakahola massacre. The popular pastor was, however able to secure his freedom after the arrests and now has gone through another setback after the Register of Societies has derived his church Newlife International Church among four others.
“In exercise of the powers conferred by section 12 (1) of the Societies Act, the Registrar of Societies cancels the registration of the societies specified in the first column of the Schedule, with effect from the respective dates specified in the third column of the schedule,” Satted Registrar of Societies Maria Nyariki.
Other churches with a similar fate include Goodnews International Ministries, Theophilus Church, Helicopter of Christ Church and Royal Park Home Owners Estate Association Langata.
The government has turned up to the pressure of regulating religious activities in the country, some of which have devastating negative impacts on societies. Some religious leaders have been accused of not abiding by to code of ethics which abide the religious beliefs as shred in the constution.
