Days after the registrar of societies had issued a notice indicating that Pastor Ezekiel Odero’s New Life church based in Kilifi County had been suspended, the high court of Kenya has issued an order that suspends the decision after an application that was filed by the Pastor Ezekiel’s legal team.
Justice Jairus Ngaah has defended his decision by urging the state and its agencies to stop interfering with church operations. Pastor Ezekiel’s church was one of the churches that were notified to shut down its operations. This comes after the pastor was arrested in link to the Shakahola massacre but was later realized.
Pastor Ezekiel’s lawyer Danstan Omari indicated that the closure was not done in good faith as it was a way of frustrating him as he rubbed off claims that his client has not been filing returns. The registrar deliberately refused to hand over church files confiscated during his arrest.
Court has temporarily stopped the action to close Pastor Ezekiel Odero's church.
